I spent three years as a Sector Manager and then joined the Group in 2003 in order to develop my professional experience. I chose the Group both for its expertise and its simplicity, qualities which were recognised by the Department Managers of various retailers.
I received 35 days training from people in a variety of positions (Sector Managers, Sales Managers, Merchandising Manager etc.), in order to gain some understanding of the new market into which I was launching myself. Lactalis is both a large Group and very human at the same time, and is a company in which I feel comfortable. The way the whole team welcomed me right at the start certainly helped !
Of what does the position of Head of Superstore Sector consist ?
My job consists in presenting my clients (Large supermarkets and Supermarkets) with new and existing products that they do not have on their shelves, but also sales operations and other promotions (point-of-sale advertising, activities, money-off coupons etc.). In addition, I have to maintain good relationships with Department Managers, the importance of whose trust and loyalty should never be underestimated ! I also change the location of supermarket shelves using sophisticated advice and specific tools: our clients are very grateful for our expertise !
Which do you think are the essential qualities for the job ?
Whether in the superstore or catering sectors, the Head of Sector acts as an ambassador for the Company in which (s) he works, and must therefore convey a positive and enthusiastic image. Listening skills and perseverance are also key qualities.
Which opportunities are open to you in the future?
I have been Head of Sector for five years now and I would like to continue my career in Sales Management. Head of Regional Sales is a position with a managerial side that seems attractive and about which I would like to discover more in the near future. After that ? After gaining more experience in supporting roles (Merchandising, Marketing, Category Management), why not Regional Manager and then maybe Sales Manager ? Anything is possible !
