I responded to an advertisement at the IUT (University Institute of Technology), for a 3-month fixed-term contract, after which I was taken on by the Group. Those first months as a summer replacement, on 3 different sites, supported by an experienced Human Resources Manager, taught me about the HR department, I.T. management tools and the Group's procedures.
I was then offered a job as a Payroll Technician at Headquarters.
Yours is one among many HR positions in the 'Payroll' department...
My role is to monitor, advise and audit.
I am part of a team made up of several technicians, each of whom manages the payroll of a number of the Group's companies. The different plants' Human Resources Managers (HRMs) handle day-to-day payroll information and then send it to us for monitoring and confirmation. I have a special role : I deal with HRMs’ technical or legal issues. I am involved in drawing up documents to explain changes in legislation or even current management, which enable me to meet HRMs’ needs and expectations.
Which skills have you developed in the position ?
I think that organisation, diligence, listening skills, responsiveness, team spirit and being flexible to technical and legal changes are the essential skills that I have acquired and developed as a Payroll Technician.
What opportunities are there in a Payroll department ?
I joined the Lactalis Group after finishing a DUT (Higher Diploma Course) in company and administrative management, during which I specialised in Human Resources. Working as a Payroll Technician has given me a deeper understanding of a number of the skills you need for a more generalised position such as HRM. My job will also involve me in projects such as the implementation of new payroll or time management software. With a few more years' experience, I'll be able to help train people who are new to the position.
